- Intern teachers serving in secondary schools, upon employment, they will be deployed to teach In Junior Secondary Schools within the counties where they are currently serving.
- Primary school teachers with the following qualifications;(✓Degree and Diploma in Special Needs Education,✓Degree and in Early Childhood Development Education Diploma in Education (Primary option)✓Diploma in Education (Secondary option)✓Bachelors Degree in Education (Secondary option) but lacking C+ at KCSE or C+ in teaching subjects.)
- Freshly employed secondary teachers or Primary teachers with the above mentioned qualifications.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will begin training teachers for junior secondary schools in January of this year, 2023.
President Ruto has also instructed the MoE, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) “to work on modalities of fast-tracking retooling teachers to ensure the country has sufficient teachers who are compliant with CBC.” To enhance the capacity of the teaching force, the president announced that the government will recruit over 30,000 additional teachers this January.
Junior Secondary School salary
The new salary scale for teachers who will teach in junior secondary schools using the competency-based curriculum has been released by the teachers’ employer.
Job grade C2 will be the teachers who will be deployed to handle junior secondary learners with a basic salary of between sh 34,955 and sh 43,694, and teachers of grade C3 will earn a basic salary between sh 43,154 and sh 53,943.
They will receive allowances such as;
- commuter allowance of sh 5,000,
- a house allowance of sh 7,500,
- hardship allowance of sh 10,900.(those in hardship areas)

TSC Teachers House Allowance Per Job Group and Region
Nairobi teachers now receive higher housing allowances as a result of rising rents in the city.
However, note that major municipalities strictly refers to those areas within major towns.
